Part E: You, The Critic of You Work

Journey of My Pieces

Dedicated To You:

I am really proud of this piece. It’s one of those where you get an idea so you start writing it down. As you’re writing, words keep flowing into your mind and continuously spill onto the page like a river, endless. I wrote this piece fairly quickly and had an image in my head. I focused in on that one image and wrote. I think that a lot of people can relate to it, unrequited love. I wanted to go in depth and write about how it feels, the pain in someone not seeing you no matter how much time and energy you put into them. The metaphor I used was a book and I’m really glad I did.

Home:

I love how delicate this piece is. I remember when I wrote it. I was feeling very down and insecure. So I did what I always do when I’m feeling down, I wrote. I wanted to take the idea of being “stuck” in the same body forever. I felt really alone, but as I was writing, I realized that it’s a really beautiful thing, having your own back. The last two lines are my favourite, “I will be on my own, and on my own is exactly the way I want to be.” I find that when people think about being on their own it saddens them. So I wanted to take that belief and flip it around.
